Brief introduction of department:

The Department of Dravyaguna was established in 1927 in Ayurvedic College of Banaras Hindu University. This Department became one of the constituent Department of Post-graduate Institute of Indian Medicine in the year 1963. Since then research and teaching in Dravyaguna at Post-graduate level started under the Institute. At present this department is one of the fourteen departments of Faculty of Ayurveda which is an integral part of Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. Main concern of this department is Medicinal Plants, their identifications, properties, uses and therapeutic effects.

In the year 2009 a total of 3218 compared to 4456 patients in the year 2008 attended the outdoor for their treatment.
