Brief introduction of the department/unit:
The Department of Pediatrics was inaugurated in 1965 by
Lt. Indira Gandhi, the then Information and Broadcasting Minister. It
has now become a nodal centre for providing child health services not
only to the eastern part of UP but also adjoining areas of Bihar, Madhya
Pradesh and Nepal.
Construction of a new three storyed building adjacent to
the existing building is the topmost priority of the department. It will
accommodate indoor and outdoor facilities, Pediatric Emergency Ward, Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit, Sub-Specialty Wards, Follow-up Clinics, Research
& Side Laboratories, etc.
Following are the main thrust areas of the development:
- To establish Pediatric Emergency Unit
- To develop Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- To further strengthen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU)
- To develop Pediatric sub-specialties as Divisions of
Neonatology, Nephrology,
- Neurology & Hemato- oncology.
The department is in the process to
provide bed side facilities for the patients admitted in the wards and
to procure many hi-tech equipment to strengthen our patient care services.
