Brief Introduction of Department
The Department of Paediatric Surgery, of the Institute
of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, is a prime teaching centre
of Child Surgery of the country, catering to the needs of whole of eastern
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and neighboring Nepal, which comprise
a high child density population. It is the first department of Institute
of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University to get its superspeciality
degree of M.Ch. Paediatric Surgery, recognized by the Medical Council
of India. It is a unique model where in an independent centrally air-conditioned
3 storied building "Bal Shalya Chikitsalaya" entirely devoted
to Paediatric Surgery. This Bal Shalya Chikitsalaya presently is comprised
of 20 general Paediatric surgical beds housed on ground floor and 10 Neonatal
Surgical ICU beds along with a separate operation theater for Newborn
housed on the first floor and 3rd storey for a Unit of Paediatric Laparoscopic
Surgery endoscopy and Paediatric Urology (12 beds & 3 Special Rooms
along with twin Operation Theatre). In view of providing high tech quality
teaching and training center of this important discipline it has been
equipped with modern medical gazette along with state of art operation
theatre (OR1) as an unique model for Paediatric Surgery practical training
and teaching with both way audio visual communication systems from Operation
Theatre to Seminar Room.
