Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Year of establishment: 1964
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
was established in 1964 . At present there are Six Professors and One
Medical Officer
fill date the Department has awarded Two Ph.Ds and
208 MD/MS. Degrees.
The Faculty members have published Four
Books and Three hundred scientific papers in
National and International journals.
The Department is actively involved in Social Obstetrics , Family Planning
, Cancer Prevention, Maternal and Child Health Care . Adolescent and Geriatric
Gynaecology , HIV and AIDS Prevention and RepnxluctiveMedicine.
The Faculty Members are actively involved in educating the masses through
Radio talks
Camps and Health Melas.
The Department holds many Training workshops and programmes from
time to time.
Trained 840 Medical Officers of UP on Contraceptive Technology
and 95 Medical Officers on IUCD under SIFPSA Project.
Trained Medical Officers , Nurses and Paramedical Staff of UP on Prevention
of AIDS and STDs under NACO , UP SAC and UNICEF Training Programmes
Trained medical Officers of UP under UPHSDP on various aspects
of Obstetrics . Currently Training the Doctors on MCH Care under
IGNOU Programme .
From time to time all the Faculty Members have visited various centres
in India and abroad and have obtained specialized Training in various
aspects of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Distinguished faculty members from abroad and India visited the Department
viz. Prof. 't'rolley (Holland) Prof. Kurt Scrim (Germany) , Prof,.Jd
Coate (UK), Prof,Chamers (UK). Prof. Kamini Rao , ProfAlokendu Chatterjee,
Dr.Narendra Malhotra Dr.Jaideep Malhotra , Prof.,C.S. Dawn, Prof. Sunital
Mittal, Prof. Atka Kriplani , Dr.Hiralal Konar .
The Department held a state level conference (UPCOG ) and two workshops
on Ultrasonography.Endoscopy and Colposcopy.
The Department plans to develop advanced Post Graduate Training Centres
in Reproductive Medicine, to establish research laborotory for genetic
& immunological tests to conduct research in newer methods of Contraceptive
Technology.
Currently the Department is strengthening the units of Gynaecological
Oncology, Maternal and Fetal Medicine, and Minimal access Surgery.
Recently the Department has been renovated and is equipped with modern
gazettes for various investigations in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
